Akaka Falls
Kohala Sunrise
Maunaloa Lei |
INSPIRATION FOR EACH SONGWaterfall – When you see Akaka Falls, on the Big Island of Hawaii, there are times when clouds hide the top of the falls and appear to be falling from the sky. The fall takes life and finds a beautiful wahine at the base of the falls, surrounded by ginger blossoms. He sweeps her up and takes her on a journey to the sea. On their journey rainbows abound and kamakani hurry them on their journey Kohala Moon – Kohala, the place of my birth. The full moon is so bright you cannot help but fall in love. The Sign – Kamakani O Kohala, the winds of Kohala. A simple sign erected by my good friend, Joe “Moon” Carvalho and his family. Tap your feet, clap your hands and lets all put a big smile on our faces. Maunaloa Blossom – The Maunaloa flower is my all time favorite flower. Tutu (our grandmother) used to have Maunaloa vines on the fence to the entrance of our hale (house). Not only were the flowers beautiful but as a child, the vines made a good saddle on a wooden fence. Whisper To Me – Inspired by a movie, I decided to write this song as a reminder how wonderful that first date was with that special person. Song For Candide – First song I ever wrote. Frank was a special guy who unfortunately passed away at a young age. I wrote this song for his daughter Candide whom I’m proud to say is my Hanai Daughter. This One’s For You – For my youngest daughter, Kau’i, who always calls to see how I’m doing. I wrote this in a taxi on my way to the airport. Run Sonny Run – When Sonny Yangson heard I wrote “The Sign” for Moon, he said, “What about me?” So, I decided to make Sonny the hero of our Makule (Senior) softball team. You’re My Man – A single mom’s lament asking her son to step up to the plate. After listening to the song over and over again, I decided it sounded like a gospel so….. Lazy Day – With nothing to do on a Sunday morning, I decided to sit down at my computer and plan my day. I decided why not plan a movie with some friends; have a little popcorn and a medium root beer (my favorite). Good Night – In 2006 Hawaii had 42 days of rain. On March 14, 5 homes were washed away and 7 lives were lost on the island of Kauai. This is the story of one family. Kate’s Lullaby – A little lullaby for Moon’s and Marcia’s grand-daughter. Summer In November – A little reminiscing of how children can grow up so fast. This is Summer who was born in the month of November. Ring The Bells – I love Christmas and singing Christmas songs. I love it so much I decided to write one. |
